Position Overview 
Applied Systems is hiring a Database Administrator – Cloud Services to ensure reliability, performance, and security for our PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases across AWS, Azure, and GCP. You’ll support mission‑critical insurance applications, drive standardization, and improve automation and cost efficiency in a highly available cloud environment.

What You’ll Do

• Manage and maintain PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server to ensure availability, performance, and security.
• Monitor database health, troubleshoot incidents, and deliver root‑cause analysis with preventative fixes; participate in an on‑call rotation.
• Design and optimize schemas, indexes, and queries in partnership with product and engineering teams.
• Operate robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes aligned to RPO/RTO, including regular failover/restore tests.
• Perform installations, upgrades, and migrations across on‑premise and managed services (MS SQL, RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL).

• Apply security best practices (least privilege, encryption, auditing) and maintain clear documentation and runbooks.
  
  

We’re Excited to Learn More About You

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years as a production DBA with PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Hands‑on experience with on-premise and AWS, Azure, or GCP managed database services (MS SQL, RDS/Aurora, Azure SQL, Cloud SQL, etc.).
• Strong fundamentals in database design, indexing, transactions, and performance tuning using query plans/DMVs/pg_stat_statements.
• Proven backup, recovery, and HA/DR experience with executed tests (not just documented plans).

• Incident response experience in high‑impact environments and clear communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  
  

You may have other skills, including

• Experience with observability tools: Solarwinds Database Performance Analyzer (DPA), Redgate SQL Monitor, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, GCP Monitoring, and DataDog.
• Automation/IaC for database operations (PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Ansible; Flyway/Liquibase or similar versioned migration frameworks).
• Experience with insurance or financial services and PII‑handling, or prior exposure to Applied Systems products.
