Job & Department Summary

The Public Cloud Engineer works as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Cloud Services

team. The Public Cloud Engineer will recommend, design, implement and maintain the following:

Public Cloud, server and serverless infrastructure (Windows, Linux, GKE/Kubernetes, and GCP

IaaS/PaaS/SaaS technologies), infrastructure monitoring/management solutions including

DataDog, and Disaster Recovery/High Availability solutions. The Public Cloud Engineer must

effectively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders to create optimal cloud

environments and configurations for Applied Cloud products.

 

Essential Functions

· Assist with the management of AWS/Azure/Google third-party Cloud infrastructures and

technologies.

· Test, plan, implement, manage, and maintain a complex hybrid infrastructure to support

the Applied Cloud environment.

· Enhance service level management using monitoring and notification tools.

· Construct and maintain documented standards for implementing and configuring

Applied Cloud infrastructure.

· Work closely with the Cloud Services Engineers; participate in the planning and

implementation of new Applied Cloud environments and resources.

· Participate in environment testing following data center maintenance that may have

affected the performance or functionality of an application.

· Participate in the on-call rotation schedule.

· Ability to work after hours and weekends when required and/or necessary.

· Continuously analyze infrastructure to determine effectiveness and inefficiencies and

make written recommendations for improvements.

· Define and implement best practices to support disaster recovery of the Applied Cloud

infrastructure.

· Develop and document workflows/procedures used by all Cloud Services staff when

assisting customers.

· Create and maintain accurate and reusable implementation, testing and any other

related IT documentation used for change or configuration process management.

· Manage and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in GCP, AWS, and Azure using IaaS

models.

· Work with vendors and other third-party teams to evaluate their products and services.

· Maintain the design, implementation, and operational documentation that used to

provide guidance to other team members.

· Pursues a program of self-development with selected reading, seminars, and

participation in continuing education.

· Identify, communicate and help to implement improvements in the work process for customers and peers. · Maintain and/or troubleshoot issues with various operating systems and network infrastructure, and assist other team members with the same. · Assist in analyzing internal production or development problems to determine hardware or software malfunctions and make recommendations. · Upon request, test and evaluate various equipment, systems, and procedures for use in the Applied Cloud environments. · The Public Cloud Engineer 1 will be engaged with Cloud Services, Corporate IT, and other inter-office teams for the purposes of support escalation, rapid response problem resolution, solution collaboration and overall, ensuring that the Applied Cloud exhibits the highest level of performance, stability, availability, security and data integrity. · Stays abreast of changes in Applied Systems’ software, technology and the industry · Continuously look for ways to improve the performance, availability and security of the Applied Cloud. · Utilize CDKTF, Terraform, HCL, and Typescript code to write/code for IaC, Terraform modules, and enhance functionality utilizing a CI/CD pipeline as requested. · Check code, scripts, modules, etc. into GitLab and maintain as required. · Create, deploy, and approve IaC/Application GitLab merge requests as required. · Participate in team meetings and maintain open and continuous communication with your peers and leadership on your areas of responsibility. · Performs other duties as assigned by immediate manager or management team.

· Meet or exceed Applied Cloud Data Center uptime metrics by ensuring all applications

and services are available to customers outside of normally scheduled maintenance

windows.

· Comply with all policies and procedures defined by Change Management.

· Complete Applied Cloud projects and change requests according to schedule, minimizing

or eliminating human error, downtime, or financial concessions.

· Reported issues managed in a timely, efficient manner with appropriate escalations,

internally across teams and functions.

Required Skills & Experience

· Education: Associates or Bachelor’s Degree plus some specialized training

· Experience: 5+ years directly related work experience and/or an equivalent combination

· Ability to design and troubleshoot enterprise architectures that include GCP, GKE, GCS,

IaaS, IaC

· Strong foundation in server, storage, and performance monitoring and troubleshooting

· Technical / Functional Skills:

· Understanding of core IT system technologies and Cloud platforms

· The ability to handle many high priority and complex task/projects simultaneously

· The ability to work with deadlines and complete work in a timely manner

· Ability to make accurate decisions based on past knowledge and experience, technical

problem solving as well as all defined policies and procedures

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

· Strong technical product and environment understanding

· Excellent organization skills and keen attention to detail

· The ability to analyze and to prioritize complex situations and risks

· Desired skills include Hashicorp Vault, Python Scripting, Ansible, Istio, ArgoCD, DataDog, CDKTF coding, HCL coding, Terraform coding, PowerShell scripting, GitLab source repository experience, Jira Kanban/Agile, Confluence, DataDog monitoring, Helm charts, GCP GLB with Cloud Armor, and Bash scripting

· Automation first mindset highly desired

· Certifications and/or Licenses (Desired): GCP Professional Certifications
