Job Description

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for Software Performance Developement Engineer who will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of a performance testing framework to facilitate the automated testing of both our current and future enterprise applications using industry standard performance testing tools.  You will work closely with the product teams to develop performance strategies, test plans, and execution of test cases within the CI/CD pipeline and independently. The role is involved with troubleshooting performance issues, root cause analysis, and primarily driving issues to appropriate resolutions.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Performance Testing: Define performance test strategies and test plans, in addition to designing and executing performance tests 
  • Performance Monitoring: Implement and maintain performance monitoring systems to proactively identify and address performance degradation issues in lower environments 
  • Performance Analysis: Identify bottlenecks, scalability issues, and system limitations  
  • Performance Tuning: Research solutions to optimize application performance through caching, load balancing, database optimization, and code profiling techniques 
  • Debugging: Use debugging tools and techniques to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize system performance. 
  • Communication: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including software engineering teams and business leaders. Share best practices, coding techniques, and performance architecture design guidelines across the technology organization.  
  • Training: Provide training and support teams with on performance strategies, test plans, k6 framework, k6 test scenarios.  
  • Analytical Thinking: Identify and solve complex problems with software engineering teams and colleagues on the Performance Testing Team 
  • Continuous Learning: Proactively engage in learning about emerging technologies and trends in the performance engineering space. 

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can work remotely or from an Applied Systems office

Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, technology, or equivalent work experience 
  • 4+ years of software engineering or performance engineering working experience. 
  • 2+ years of performance testing experience or extensive knowledge in performance testing, design and strategy with different technologies including relational databases. 
  • 2 Years experience working with JavaScript or TypeScript
  • 2 Years experience working with Object Orientated Programming languages – Java / C#
  • Experience with performance analysis, tuning, and optimization techniques for web-based applications, APIs, and databases. 

Additionally, you may have;

  • Experience with UI performance tools such as Playwright, Puppeteer or Selenium. 
  • Experience with Performance Monitoring Tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace or Grafana. 
  • Familiarity with designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting performance issues in distributed systems or microservices architectures. 
  • Proficiency in performance testing tools (e.g., k6, JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling). 
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD design, implementation, and quality gating.
