  • Job Description

    Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Privacy & Compliance Specialist to join our growing Privacy and Information Security team.  In this role, you will work closely with our VP of Information Security & Data Protection Officer, Corporate Counsel, and other Privacy and Information Security team members to support activities related to data protection/privacy and enterprise compliance across our operations in North America and the European Union.  This includes hands-on, first-line work to further our legal and compliance-related processes and initiatives concerning data protection/privacy, information security, and customer/vendor due diligence, and involves liaising with external parties (customers/vendors) and internal business leaders and departments across the enterprise.  You will assist with research, policy and procedure development/management, maintaining current data processing records, education/training to employees, managing customer and vendor due diligence assessments/questionnaires, and other activities in support of our privacy and third-party risk management programs.  Your efforts will ensure success of the Privacy and Information Security team’s commitment to data protection and defending the assets, resources, and interests of Applied and Applied’s employees, customers, and other individuals whose data we maintain.


    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Creating, managing, and administering internal and external privacy and risk assessments, vendor/third-party due diligence questionnaires, data-flow diagrams, and other data processing records
    • Assisting with the creation, analysis, and administration of data use cases and analysis of authorized process documentation
    • Assisting with evolving compliance initiatives and programs
    • Processing, responding to, and maintaining records related to, customer due diligence assessments and questionnaires
    • Compliance record management using privacy management software (OneTrust)
    • Other projects and assignments as assigned 

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
    • 2-4 years of experience in a paralegal, analyst, or similar, role related to privacy, security, and/or supporting legal/regulatory or other compliance programs
    • Attention to detail and an ability to organize and multitask is a must
    • Able to understand and successfully navigate legal and business issues while maintaining positive relationships with peers, business units, clients, partners and vendors
    • Outstanding collaboration skills, communication skills, and proficiency with general office technology (PC’s, MS Office [Word, Excel, PowerPoint])
    • Demonstrates appropriate prioritization, timeliness, and responsiveness in connection with work assignments, urgent situations, and inquires (e.g., emails, phone calls, etc.)
    • Able to problem solve and work independently without close supervision
    • Helpful, but not required:
      • Experience with privacy and data protections laws and regulations in the US, Canada, and EU/UK (e.g., HIPAA, PIPEDA, GDPR)
      • IAPP/CIPP Certification
      • Experience working with OneTrust privacy management software
      • Insurance and/or software industry experience
